NOSTALGIA

I bought this cellophane lantern, candles and sparklers recently. It was a long time ago since I last carried a cellophane lantern.

I hate the modern day plastic lanterns powered by batteries. It is just not the same and not fun at all without the candles and flitting light from the lit candle. The thought of walking Sandy with the lantern makes me excited already.

WHITFIELDIA ELONGATA

The foreground plant with broad leaves is another interesting plant from the Acanthaceae Family. The common name White Candles is most appropriate because of its abundant white flowers subtended by the equally white hairy bracts against the dark green leaves.

I posted about this shrub before but under its synonym Whitfieldia longiflora. Its other synonym include Ruellia longiflora.

Apparently, this shrub is able to flower in shade areas too, making it an attractive addition to a dim corner of the garden or house. 2 links are attached below:
