All the Pachira aquatica (Common Name: Money Tree, Malabar Chestnut; Family: Malvaceae) trees in the Lion Grove flowered recently and there were flowers everywhere. The petals were all curved up to reveal the dense and long reddish-white and -orange stamens.

These are flowers taken at the Chinese Garden. The first is the Sterculia monosperma (Common Name: Chinese Chestnut, Seven Sister's Fruit; Family: Sterculiaceae) with the beautiful cluster of pink flowers.
The second are the red flowers of the Ipomoea horsfalliae (Common Name: Cardinal Creeper, Lady Doorly's Morning Glory; Family: Convolvulaceae).

BLACK-HEADED MUNIA
I love such passerine birds since the day I saw small flocks of them at the Punggol field in 1994. Amongst the various Munia species, this one has distinctive black head feathers that are separated from the brown body plumage. Even its bluish beak is a statement. Its other interesting common name is the Chestnut Munia.
