CHORISIA AND PSEUDOBOMBAX

Looking at the date on the photos, I have been more than 2 months late in posting them. The flowering of the Chorisia is long over. There is quite a variety of Chorisia trees at the Hub and regrettably they don't flower in synchrony. Otherwise it would be such a spectacle to watch all the different varieties of flowers in bloom. Even the Pseudobombax has different coloured flowers that bloom at different times.

PSEUDOBOMBAX ELLIPTICUM

The Pseudobombax at the Hub is growing well and has put out lots of new leaves and I cannot wait to see it grow into a big spreading tree. Unlike the Bombax with big prominent petals, the petals of the flowers of this species are very much reduced and the stamens are characteristic of this tree.

PSEUDOBOMBAX ELLIPTICUM

Outside the Flower Dome at the Hub or Canopy were also planted a few Pseudobombax ellipticum trees. This one has flowers with long red stamens.

FLOWER DOME

These were photos taken from the Flower Dome. Some of the interesting plants captured include:

  • Pseudobombax ellipticum (white flower)
  • Anigozanthos cultivar
  • Grevillea cultivar
  • Gazania cultivar
  • Plectranthus cultivar
  • Camellia japonica

PSEUDOBOMBAX ELLIPTICUM

The Pseudobombax came into bloom recently and the long red stamens were an instant draw. I definitely noticed it.

PSEUDOBOMBAX

I saw this tree at the ecolake of the Singapore Botanic Gardens and was drawn by its prominent red new leaf flushes. Upon closer observation, I thought it looked familiar. Is this what I think it is, I asked myself.

I couldn't find any plant label on the tree but suspected this is the Pseudobombax ellipticum that I planted recently at the Hub.
