JATROPHA PODAGRICA

I took these photos recently and in this morning's Sunday Times newspaper, someone wrote in to ask the identity of this plant. This is actually one of the smaller Jatropha plants that I know off.

From the Euphorbiaceae Family, the common name is Buddha Belly or Bottle Plant Shrub because of its large swollen stem. It is also known as the Gout Plant. The single stem supports a few beautiful lobe-shaped leaves and the plant has a whitish sap and is poisonous, as with the other plants from the same family.

Frankly, this is not a new plant and had been around for years. But I seldom see it planted anywhere in our landscape and seeing this plant makes me feel tempted to buy one to add to my collection. A few links are attached below:
