FILIAL PIETY: MOTHER AND SON

By now, most people would have seen this video produced by MCYS to promote the family value of filial piety. Despite how the mother treated the son and his family when she was old, the son remained filial to the mother even though the others ostracized her. He would always remember how she rushed him to the hospital when he was young, very sick and begged the doctors and nurses to treat him.

She never gave up on him and so he never gave up on her even at her deathbed. Of course, the short clip was accompanied by the famous hokkien jingle 天黑黑 which made the whole thing so endearing.

FATHER AND SON

I read about this storyline sometime ago. It tells a touching but brief story between a father and a son through a sparrow. I suppose the message it is trying to spread is our parents treated us with lots of love and patience when we were young and needed them. So when they become old, we should reciprocate and similarly accord them our love and patience when they need us most.

We may be the child to someone today, but tomorrow we may be on the other side of the coin and be the parent to someone.
