CHORISIA SPECIOSA

The Silk Floss Trees have been flowering for a while now and even today, I could see so many variations in the blooming flowers.

HIBISCUS MOSCHEUTOS

This is the red flower variety which I planted recently. Compared to the more common Hibiscus, this has larger flowers. But it also means this plant requires a constant dose of fertilizers because the flowering process is too energy demanding. With the right amount of care and attention, this plant would be very rewarding to grow.

LITTLE SPARROWdead,

As I was walking Sandy yesterday, I saw the carcass of this dead sparrow, with its sunken eye socket. It must have been dead for a while. The poor little fella.

COLD STORAGE

I saw these terrariums on sale at the Takashimaya Cold Storage recently. The prices shocked me so much although I am sure some people would pay the price for them.

SKYLINE PROMENADE

The strip of planting along the Skyline Promenade is fantastic for planting sun- and heat-loving plants such as the Bougainvillea, Tecoma capensis (Synonym: Tecomaria capensis), Russelia equisetiformis

One of my additions include the purple flower, silver leaved Leucophyllum frutescens (Common Name: Barometer Bush, Ash Plant), which I would add to the Discovery Garden slope.

CONGEA & HIBISCUS

I have been looking for these pink or purple Congea griffithiana (Common Name: Pink Sandpaper Vine, Pink Shower Orchid) for the longest time. Finally I found it and planted it in the Indian Garden. However, I don't think it is as fast growing as the white-flower Congea. Even the leaves feel different and are more tough, unlike the soft velvety Congea tomentosa.

On the other side of Chinese Garden, I planted 3 different coloured cultivars of the Hibiscus moscheutus (Common Name: Swamp Rose Mallow, Rose Mallow). They were flowering profusely recently although it is not in flower currently. The good thing is, this species is found in wetlands and riverine systems, so it can be planted in a bog garden.

KHOO TECK PUAT HOSPITAL

I am getting worried for the hospital. Almost everywhere I looked, the plants appeared to be rather yellowish and are suffering from acute nitrogen nutrient deficiency. With such severe symptoms, it would likely take some time to correct them.

MRT

I am always attracted to colours, so naturally this advertisement would definitely pique my interest and attention.

Whilst the advertisement served to promote the free IDD talk time to 15 destinations, I was more curious with what these countries were and the key architectural logos used to depict them. Anyway, they are shown as follows:
  • Australia
  • Bangkok
  • Brunei
  • Canada/USA
  • China
  • Hong Kong
  • India
  • Jakarta
  • Japan
  • Malaysia
  • New Zealand
  • Philippines
  • South Korea
  • Taiwan
  • United Kingdom

MID-AUTUMN'S NIGHT

Alright, we do not have autumn here but it was the night of the Mooncake Festival. The moon was partially obscured by the clouds in the sky. After this day, we would have to wait for another 11 months before we can taste mooncakes again.

TERRAPINS

It's amazing how these two terrapins can stack over each other and fall asleep?

CHORISIA SPECIOSA

A couple of these Silk Floss Trees flowered again recently. Don't they just look lovely?
