CITY SKYLINE

Today's weather - sunny

I have not been to this double helix bridge since last June. Anyway, this is the city skyline taken from the bridge. There is also the Marina Bay Sands connected to this bridge.

My camera battery was dying so I couldn't take more photos, other than the costumes from the Broadway Musical "Wicked".

Oh yes, they have a Gong Cha outlet within MBS too!

CAT

This is one unusual coloured cat. It was lazing and waiting for food scraps under the table where I was seated this morning for my breakfast. These were photos taken using my new iphone 4.

MOON

These photos were taken on 13 Sep 11, I think just after the Mid-Autumn's Day or simply Mooncake Festival. I remember that I couldn't see the moon on the actual night because of the haze and so this should be the day after.

CALOTROPIS GIGANTEA

I feel my efforts of planting this Calotropis gigantea is finally paying off. The few clumps have grown considerably and just this single plant is supporting a range of fauna.

The Praying Mantis was very wary of me and kept trying to hide away from me. Just look at the way it was looking at me with those small eyes and raised appendages, supposedly ready to stab me with those spiked forelegs.

Then there were the yellow aphids, which I actually find to be rather cute. Anyway, I am glad that there were numerous Plain Tiger caterpillars, which would support a healthy population of Plain Tiger butterflies, which I frequently see in the garden.

HOUSEPLANTS

 Today's weather - rainy
This Hamelia patens along my corridor has been attracting the Olive-backed Sunbird but I never managed to get good photos of them.

There were several occasions when I was doing my gardening along the corridor and the sunbirds suddenly flew and perched onto the Hamelia. I had to freeze in my steps and stop what I was doing. But they always discover me and flew off before I could even walk back into the house to retrieve my camera.

So it was a pleasant surprise when I saw this little fella and managed to take these few shots of it, albeit the photos were rather pathetic looking. The affinity of this plant to attract sunbirds is one reason why I have yet to remove it from my planter, even though it is starting to shows nutrient deficiency symptoms recently. I can be destructive at times and sooner or later, this Hamelia may follow the footsteps of the Quisqualis.

LUNCH

I had this miserable meal for lunch today.

CHANG'ER

I almost forgot to post about her. The mooncake festival may be over and we have to wait another year before we can eat mooncakes or carry lanterns but I am immortalising her here.

Does she look different from last year? You decide. It is amazing how a year has passed since I last posted the following:

HOUSE PLANTS

Interestingly, my cousin and I were in contact with each other recently on terrariums and plants for the home.

He was saying how his wife wishes for a penthouse to grow plants. In fact, I too wish that I can have a penthouse to grow plants on the rooftop. It has always been my dream but sadly, I don't think I can ever afford to buy one. Even my mum jokingly mentioned previously that she hopes I can someday buy a terrace house so that I can grow all the plants I want. However, I do think she secretly wants the piece of land to grow her green stuff too.

Anyway, this is what I can grow along this little stretch of corridor and little sunshine. I am merely making do with whatever space I have to grow plants. In fact, this small amount of space is so precious that I have to periodically decide what plants to replace in order to have the optimum impact that I seek. There is just no room for non-performers here.

I had this Quisqualis for a long while now and it has not flowered profusely the way it does in open sun areas and was showing severe nutrient deficiency symptoms. So, I made the difficult decision and spent more than an hour digging it out of the huge planter it was in. I transplanted it into a pot so that I can plant it somewhere else. Right now, most of the leaves have dried up and it is under extreme stress since most of the its extensive roots were severed by me in the process of digging it up.
