CYCAS RUMPHII

the developing strobili
This is a less common cycad than the Cycas revoluta. But being prehistoric plants from the Gymnosperm group, they are non-flowering plants that produce naked seeds.

The fruit is like a cone and is known as a strobilus (pl. strobili).

these are the naked seeds on the female strobili

SINGAPORE GARDEN FESTIVAL 12 PART 1

These are snapshots of some of the displays at this year's Singapore Garden Festival (SGF) 12. Just look at the paper cutouts of the Supertrees, Singapore Flyer, temple etc.

In a different display, the vendor uses lots of Flame Lily (scientific name: Gloriosa superba) to do up the stall. Then there was an interesting setup with 3 trees, as if they were rubber seeds germinating from a seed. There was also a north pole, complete an igloo and arctic aurora in the form of balloons.

SEEDS

I bought the top 3 packets of seeds on 10 Jan 10 from Cold Storage. The bottom 2 packets were bought sometime ago.

It seems that CS is now bringing in new seeds from China for sale here and that's good news to me.

At least now I get to try out a new range of seeds other than those from the common Horti-Flora.
