RADERMACHERA & TALIPARITI

From the leaves and characteristic shape of its flowers, I think this is a Radermachera although I do not know the species identity.

The second small tree or big shrub with heart-shaped leaves is the Talipariti tiliaceum (synonym: Hibiscus tiliaceus; Family: Malvaceae), which is a back mangrove Hibiscus. The flowers last for only about a day and open yellow but gradually turn orange and then red. A link on this plant is shown below:

NB on 8 Apr 11: A friend mentioned that the first plant could be the Campsis radicans and I think he could be right!

HIBISCUS TILIACEUS

Commonly known as the Beach Hibiscus or Sea Hibiscus, this coastal Hibiscus tiliaceus (synonym: Talipariti tiliaceum; Family: Malvaceae) planted beside the Changi Jetty has interesting heart-shaped leaves and short-lived flowers that open yellow and gradually turn orange before becoming red and shed within a day.

The walkway continues along the promenade towards a landscaped plaza area before leading to the Boardwalk.
