ALSTONIA SCHOLARIS

Oooh, this phenomenon of the flowering Alstonia scholaris occured islandwide from around the new year onwards.

Trees of the same species were spotted to produce clusters of creamy flowers that imbibe and permeate the air with a strange but alluring fragrance.

This is the first time I paid attention to this synchronized flowering and took the photos. The tree in this blog is just one of the many flowering Alstonias planted in HortPark's Car Park Garden and Water Garden. The photos were taken on 4 Jan 10.

In fact, I saw a few Painted Jezebel butterflies visiting the flowers for nectar. Ah, now I have another tree to add to the Butterfly Garden extension. It is interesting how the petals are twisted and arranged around each flower.
