QUASSIA INDICA

Frankly, our nursery does have an interesting collection of plants built up over the years. Most shrubs were already planted by me in HortPark.

This Quassia is a most unusual plant. Just look at these photos taken on 12 Jan 10 and observe its interesting reddish new leaf flushes that turn green over time. It may be hard to believe, but the leaves are actually simple and not compound, which is a common characteristic of leguminous plants.

The inflorescence is red and has white anthers peeping out from the closely rolled up red petals.

There are three of them planted at the Floral Walk.
