CLERODENDRUM CALAMITOSUM

On my way home on 31 Dec 09, I passed by HortPark's car park and saw the Clerodendrum calamitosum in flower.

The genus Clerodendrum has many beautiful members and this is one pretty darling. When not in bloom, it is inconspicuous with its small green leaves. But when it does flower, usually it flowers so profusely, like what you see in the attached photos. Some of them have white flowers with red sepals that persist even after the petals drop off. In the second photo, the Clerodendrum's white flowers match very well against the pink Rondeletia leucophylla flowers.

Along the same stretch of driveway, I also planted some musical notes Clerodendrum macrosiphon. It was also in bloom, but I shall blog about them when they are in mass flowering. Then there is this Clerodendrum indicum, which has a slightly different growth habit but has equally interesting white flowers.
