OLD SKIN

When I saw this image, my initial thoughts were what was that strange thing behind the Autumn Leaf caterpillar? Was it some sort of insect or parasite, I asked myself?

Then it dawned on me that the thing was the caterpillar's old skin. It morphed into another instar, leaving behind a crumpled remnant cover.

Sometimes, I wished we humans can shed our old skin and take on a more attractive appearance.
