MIMOSA PUDICA

I have never posted about this very common garden weed Mimosa pudica (common name: Sensitive Plant, Tickle Me Plant; Family: Fabaceae (Leguminosae)) because it is not regarded as an ornamental plant and more often than not, their presence in the urban landscape is frowned upon.

But I am an admirer of this amazing plant that responds to tactile touches on its leaves. How many plants can actually do that? Hardly any, I say. All I can say is it is not a plant with a large appreciative audience, but I am glad to be one. To me, even the compound leaves look beautiful.

NB on 28 Feb 11: This is Mimosa diplotricha, not M. pudica.
