GEMMA ARTERTON

The name may not sound familiar but she is certainly an extraordinary beauty. Until recently, I have never seen her before.

For avid movie-goers, they would know she was one of the new James Bond girls. I didn't know because I don't watch the James Bond franchise.

But I first saw her in 'Clash of the Titans' a couple of months back, starring alongside Sam Worthington as Perseus, son of Zeus. She was a fresh face to me then. She possesses an ethereal beauty that is missing from many hollywood actresses. Otherwise, why would she be given such a meaty role in CotT as Io, a beautiful woman who never ages as punishment for refusal to be seduced by a god? So much so that she became the love interest of Perseus instead of the princess in the original version in the 70s. By the way, the movie was kind of a letdown. I suppose it is not good to build up too much expectations of something because when it falls to deliver, it really falls flat on the face.

In 'Prince of Persia - The Sands of Time', she was Princess Tamina and paired up with Jake Gyllenhaal, as the Prince, and was instrumental to save her kingdom from falling into the wrong hands and destruction. In this movie though, she was so feisty that we do find her annoying at times.
