PERSIA

I watched the movie "Prince of Persia: the Sands of Time" last weekend.

I have always been intrigued by the mysteries and beauty of Persia from all the stories, movies e.g. Alexander the Great, chinese martial arts period productions e.g. Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre, that I watched. Sandwiched between India and China on the right and Arabia Greece and Egypt on its left, it was often attacked by conquerors from all around who wanted a part of the land or simply because this was the only way through to bring their battles to the faraway destinations. This geographical location on land was both an advantage and disadvantage to its occupants.

Based on such sources, the mystique of Persia is often portrayed not only in its origin, land, culture, richness and treasures but its princesses are often of unparallel beauty. Today, it is just the war-torn Iran and Iraq that occupy its place. From current photos on the newspapers, tv etc, it is now a land of war, destruction, poverty, unrest etc. Can it ever regain its former glory of the strong Persian empire someday, I wonder?
