TERRARIUM

These are some of the tools, materials and plants I use to plant up a terrarium, which is a self-sustaining glass container of moisture and shade loving plants. I will not go into the technicalities and I started planting them more than 16 years ago but it seems the craze only caught on recently, as evident by the sales I saw at HortPark, gardening events and even some shops in shopping centres.

Simply put, the materials required are:
  • plants
  • drainage layer - expanded clay
  • friable sterilized soil
  • coloured pebbles or ornaments
  • tools - fork, spade, scissors
Anyone can plant up a simple terrarium and use it to decorate any part of the house or office with natural or artificial light, as long as it is indoors and not under direct sunlight.
